A redesigned Juvie- now with better heat retention.
Designed for ease of care and cleaning, the top frame can easily be lifted off, leaving the brooder box separate for easy cleaning. Made from kiln-dried tongue and groove pine, it is relatively lightweight and offers good heat retention.
Access from the front reduces the predator response (and accompanying stress) that comes when prey animals are approached from above.
A split front door keeps one side closed (so chicks can't escape) while you fill food and water from the other. The width of the brooder gives the chicks a greater heat gradient, so they can self regulate between temperature zones.
Top rails have hooks installed to hang water and feed; hanging these helps keep them free of debris. The brooder can hold up to a one-gallon waterer (feeder, waterer, and pine shavings not included).
A shop lamp with a heat source can be placed directly on the top – no need to move anything to access the inside!
Alternately, a heat plate can be used inside. Remember to set it low enough that there is *just* enough room for your chicks to fit underneath, and raise it as they grow.
Capacity
Designed to house chicks hatched from a fully loaded standard incubator* for their first 4-6 weeks.
*Standard incubators hold 20-25 eggs.
At an 80% hatch rate, this results in 16-20 chicks from 20 -25 eggs.
