Hello and welcome!

My name is Memory, and I'm the designer and driving force behind Feathered Fortress Coops.  As far back as I can remember, I have been a builder, a maker, an artist, and a creator.

With a background in textile arts, carpentry, education, design, and engineering, and the patience to breed chickens for egg color, it's only natural that I turned my skillset to improving homestead infrastructure.

I have always focused on durability, functionality, and sustainability in every product that I create, and I continue to incorporate those same attributes into every one of the coops available here.

My Story

My chicken keeping journey started in 2011, on a rental property with an old coop already in place.  The hens were able to free range during the day, but some were lost to predators, and the coop was a nightmare to keep clean. When neighbors called the law because my birds were free ranging, I chose to rehome them rather than keep them locked in an inadequate run.

Years later I moved to Mills River, and decided I wanted chickens again. I built a coop with a permanent run. I free ranged my hens for a while, until a cranky neighbor sent me threatening messages (are we starting to see a trend here?), so the hens got closed up in the run that quickly turned to a mud pit.

As my partner and I began to build a working homestead, I knew I needed to up my chicken infrastructure game, so I started looking at my options.  All the coops available for purchase were either big, heavy, stationary, and a pain to keep clean, or too small to humanely house even a single hen (despite what the box said).  So of course, I did what I do best, and I began building my own.

As someone who breeds for egg color, I'm constantly reevaluating my chicken keeping needs, and am always looking for ways to make to make their care easier for me, and, most importantly, humane and healthy for them, because happy chickens means yummy eggs.

There was some trial and error, and the prototypes are still being put to good use by my flock.

The end result is a line of coops that provide secure, humane, housing for chicks, layers, and meat birds, with functional designs that allow you to raise chickens in a sustainable manner.

I'm far too busy tending chickens, building coops, gardening, hiking, making, and spending time with my family to blow up your inbox. I will, however, send out the occasional email when new products are available, or new educational content is provided.

I will not EVER sell your information.
