The amount of space your flock needs depends on the size of your flock.
Feathered Fortress Coops are meant for roosting at night, and are meant to be used in combination with a protected foraging area. As discussed in my previous post, once I switched to solar powered electronet fencing, I’ll never use anything else again.
I’ve organized required infrastructure (and quantities) based on flock sizes below:
Six or fewer chickens:
A solar powered fencing starter kit, with 42” tall fencing, or 48” tall fencing.
A Henitentiary mobile coop.
One chicken feeder with a rain hat.
Seven to fifteen chickens:
A solar powered fencing starter kit, with 42” tall fencing, or 48” tall fencing.
An extra run of 42” tall fencing, or an extra run of 48” tall fencing.
A Henitentiary mobile coop.
One chicken feeder with a rain hat.
Sixteen to twenty-five chickens:
A solar powered fencing starter kit, with 42” tall fencing, or 48” tall fencing.
At least one extra run of 42” tall fencing, or at least one extra run of 48” tall fencing.
I recommend a third extra run if you can budget for it. It will reduce the number of times you need to rotate foraging, and allow you to set up a separate small run if you need to separate some of your birds.
A Folsom mobile coop (Or two Henitentiarys if separating your flock is in your future, or you're already set up with one.)
Two chicken feeders with rain hats.
Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases if you use my links to purchase the items, at no extra cost to you, which is a small way that you can support my little business. I do NOT however recommend these products because of the kickback- I recommend them because they make my chicken tending chores So. Much. Simpler.
